Packet Bulletin Board Service
SCCo ARES/RACES operates four packet bulletin board (BBS) systems named W1XSC through W4XSC. These are in various locations, and most areas in the county can reach at least two of them via amateur radio. Cities and agencies in Santa Clara County are assigned a primary and secondary BBS to optimize traffic flow and provide predictable addressing.
These systems provide the following capabilities:
- Standard amateur radio BBS functionality (messages and bulletins)
- Message and bulletin exchange with the worldwide BBS network
- Message and bulletin exchange with AMPRnet
- Message exchange with standard email (subject to Internet connectivity)
- Support for tactical station mailboxes as well as operator mailboxes
- Support for SCCo-specific notice areas as well as traditional bulletins
