Ham Cram (for Technician License) - open to the general public

Date: 03/22/25 Start: 8:00 AM End: 5:00 PM Location: El Camino Hospital - Mt. View
Credential Credit (What's this?): No

The Los Gatos/Monte Sereno ARES/RACES group is planning their 28th “Ham Cram” class as a public service to all who wish to support their family and community in an Emergency (or Public Service Events).

The class is designed for CERT and other neighborhood groups whose members are interested in getting a ham license but is also a great way to increase the ranks of local ARES-RACES teams.  We encourage all of our Ham Cram graduates to continue with the County Introduction to and Fundamentals of Emergency Communications classes and all other County ARES-RACES offerings for building and maintaining emergency radio skills.

It is an instructor-led Ham Cram with 4-6 instructors for the day.  The slides were originally created by the Saratoga Amateur Radio Assocation (SARA) and, of course, have been updated for the current 2022-2026 Question Pool by LG/MS ARES-RACES members.

There have been close to 600 graduates since 2016 with a pass rate of about 90%.  Attendees come principally from Santa Clara County, but have included individuals from San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, San Benito and Sacramento counties, among others, between the ages of 12 and 92, with and without technical skills.

The class starts promptly at 08:00 (please arrive 15 minutes early for sign-in paperwork and logistics) and ends at 16:00 with lunch and other breaks.  The FCC Volunteer Examiners (SVVE.org) take over at 16:00 to conduct the FCC testing process, which is now entirely on-line, though the class is in-person.

The class will be held at El Camino Hospital's Mountain View campus on Grant Road, in conference rooms A and B. Free parking is available on site. A map will be provided to those who sign up. There will be a lunch break; bring your own lunch, or plan to buy one from the cafeteria.
