Morgan Hill ARES/CERT Communications Drill

Date: 05/20/23 Start: 9:00 AM End: 1:00 PM Location: Morgan Hill Bus Yard
Credential Credit (What's this?): No

Morgan Hill will be conducting a quarterly ARES drill combined with a CERT basic radio operations FRS/GMRS training and exercise

Exercise Details:

For this exercise the EOC has been damaged and unusable.  We will use the Morgan Hill Bus Yard as our alternate EOC and CERT rally point location setting up portable radio and packet gear.  The bus yard is located at 105 Edes Court, Morgan Hill.

Schedule:

  • 09:00 - ARES Briefing
  • 09:15 - CERT basic radio communications training
  • 09:30 - Amateur Station setup and familiarization
  • 10:00 - 12:00 - ARES Drill Activity
  • 10:15 - CERT radio programming and deployment
  • 10:30 - Local Morgan Hill CERT drill activity
  • 12:00 - 13:00 - Equipment return and Debrief

Positions:

There will be two types of radio operators needed for the Morgan Hill radio room--Net control operators and packet operators.

The net control positions will be assigned to either GMRS or Amateur Nets depending upon license and interest.  This will be a good learning experience for less experienced operators.

The packet position will be focused on drill traffic between Morgan Hill and the County and will be a good learning experience for rusty or new packet operators.

Experienced operators will be mentoring both the packet and Net operators.

Directions:

The Morgan Hill Bus Yard is located at 105 Edes Court, Morgan Hill.  Enter through the gates on the right hand side and drive down to the far building (where the CERT cache is located).  You will be directed where to go from there.
