The organizers of the county-wide CERT Skills Day event have asked us to provide radio operators for several positions.
Location:
The event will be held at Quinlan Community Center, located at 10185 N. Stelling Road in Cupertino. There will 4 skill areas one of which is Radio Communications. Each session will last for one hour, rotating to the next skill area each hour-four rotations total.
Specific positions:
Shadows: You will serve as a shadow operator for one of the staff members, providing communications between the event leaders. This is expected to be a fairly low-intensity position so it could be a good opportunity for people who have taken the shadow training class to try shadowng for the first time. Some shadow operators will be needed with an operating period of 0700 to about 0830, and others from 0700 to 1400.
Net Controller: You will be Net Control for the shadow net. This will be an open net, and you will operate using your HT.
CERT Radio Mentors (12 needed): You will mentor CERTs who are learning and practicing proper techniques for communicating on a directed net. Read the Position Description for more details. You can not sign-up as a Mentor without first being approved. If interested, email Tim ke6tim@arrl.net and you will be contacted.
Additional Information:
At the event, you will be registered as a Cupertino DSW for that day, so neither a city nor a county DSW is required in advance.
Lunch will be provided at the event.
Sign-ups for this event will be closed at 6pm January 19th.
The following positions are available for this event. You can state your preference when you sign up for the event. The event coordinator will attempt to accommodate your request. Based on the event and its requirements, the event coordinator may move hams to positions other than those requested.
