|||
Date: 06/05/21 | Start: 9:00 AM | End: 12:00 PM | Location: 55 W Younger Ave, San Jose |
Credential Credit (What's this?): Yes |
Prerequisites, Course Description, and Course Materials:
- See the Field Communicator Type III Part B and Type II page for complete information prerequisites, course details, and to download the course materials.
- The training presentation file were updated on 05/30/21.
Location:
- Because the county parks have opened more of their facilities to the public, we are unable to hold this class in a park. Instead, it will be held in the Sheriff’s Auditorium in the County Sheriff’s building at 55 W. Younger Ave. in San Jose. This is a large room with a capacity of 300 people. As we will have only about 40 people in the class, there will be plenty of room for social distancing. See the information below for the new details about how the class will be conducted and what you will need to bring.
Environment:
Since we will be in a large room and spread out for "social distancing", there will be a notable difference in how we conduct this class. Specifically,
- We will use our radios instead of a microphone and speakers. Students will listen to the instructor, ask questions, and interact with other students over the radio. This is a class on operating in a field environment with your radio, so use of your HT during class will simulate how you might do this during a field assignment.
- Face masks will be required at all times.
- Because we will be spread out in the room it may be difficult for everyone to clearly see the screen. Attendees should bring their own copy of the course slides--either printed or on a tablet or PC.
- Chairs will be arranged to meet county COVID Social Distancing rules, DO NOT move the chairs. If you want to sit near the front, arrive early.
What You Need To Bring (in additional to the course materials):
- Face mask
- HT with plenty of battery for 3 hours. You should be able to operate on extra low power, so it shouldn't be a problem.
- Minimum of earbud or headphones, so we don't bother others with radio chatter. A headset (headphones with boom microphone) is recommended for best audio quality (hearing and speaking). If you come without a headset or earbud you will be asked to leave.
- Printed copies of all other course materials (see the course description page for all course materials - link above). The in-class exercises require you to write on the various forms.
- Clipboard or other writing surface. There will not be tables, only chairs, in the room.
- Water, as you desire. Other beverages and snacks are NOT ALLOWED in the Sheriff’s Auditorium.
Safety: Follow all recommendations from health officials
- Review these screening questions and, if you have any of the listed symptoms, please remain at home.
- If you are in the higher risk category (see County health guidelines), it may be best to stay home.
- Practice social distancing (maintain at least 6 feet separation from others) at all times
- Wear a mask at all times.
Parking and Check-in:
- Park in the lot across the street from the Sheriff’s Office. Parking permits are not needed on weekends. Do not park in the visitors’ lot beside the Sheriff’s Office building.
- When you arrive at the Sheriff’s office, someone will be available to sign you in on the ICS-211 and direct you to the auditorium.
- Please do NOT bunch up at check-in. Stay 6 feet apart at all times.
NOTE: Depending on the number of participants, class questions, and interaction, be prepared for the class to run over the scheduled time by up to 30 minutes due to the unique teaching environment.
Class size is limited to the first 40 people that sign up.
Monitor AA6BT, 146.115 MHz, + offset, PL 100.0 Hz, the morning of the class for any changes relative to the class, location, etc. If you need help finding the location, this will be the talk-in frequency.
Note: 90% or better class time attendance required for credit.
