Background
The Frequency Coordinator is a member of the Santa Clara County ARES/RACES leadership team. They report to the DEC/CRO and work as a team with the other ADECs/DCROs to support the goals and objectives of the organization.
They primarily coordinate shared uses of frequencies by cities/agencies within Santa Clara County, and they maintain the list of frequencies used by ARES/RACES within the county.
Requirements
- Minimum C4 credential, N2 or F2 preferred.
- Familiarity with HTML and making updates to Santa Clara County ARES/RACES website.
- Familiarity with radio programming software such as CHIRP.
Duties and Expectations
- Maintains the “Voice Frequency” list on the Santa Clara County ARES/RACES website.
- Coordinates with city/agency ECs to confirm that frequencies and city information are correct at least once per year.
- Identifies potential conflicts of frequencies shared between cities/agencies.
- Works with ECs to test conflicts and implement mitigations such as physical separation (sharing the frequency at far distances in the county) and/or use of tone squelch.
- Maintains (or delegates) radio programming of all Santa Clara County EO radio room radios.
