SCCo ARES/RACES Email Discussion Groups
SCCo ARES/RACES has email discussion groups on various topics that operators can join.
These groups are all on the scc‑ares‑races.groups.io
domain.
To subscribe to any of these groups, you must have a groups.io account.
You must subscribe to the announce
group before any other.
Groups.io Account Setup
If you don’t already have a groups.io account, register for one, using the email address where you want to receive emails from the groups. The system will send you a confirmation email that you have to acknowledge to complete the registration. The confirmation email may go to your Spam folder; look for it there if you don’t see it within a few minutes.
After creating an account (or if you already have one):
- Open the menu at the top right corner and choose “Settings.”
- In the left sidebar of the resulting page, choose “Identity.”
- Put your full name in the “Display Name” field.
- Set the “Profile Privacy” the way you want it.
- Click the “Update Overall Profile” button at the bottom.
(These settings affect all of your groups.io lists, not just the SCCo ARES/RACES ones.)
If you want to send emails to our groups from a different address than the one you receive at (the one you registered with):
- Go to “Login” in the left sidebar.
- Click on “Advanced Settings for Email Aliases” at the bottom of the page.
- Use the form there to add email alias(es) as needed.
Next, join our announce
group.
- Go to the
announce
group page (see link below). - Click on the “Apply For Membership In This Group” button. This will send you an email with some questions to verify your connection to SCCo ARES/RACES.
- Reply to the email with answers.
After a human reviews your answers, you will be added to the group.
Once you are notified that you’ve been added to the group, configure your group profile (the settings that are specific to SCCo ARES/RACES).
- Go back to the
announce
group page. - Click on “Subscription” in the left sidebar.
- In the submenu, click on “Group Profile.”
- Click the “Edit Group Profile” button.
- Add your call sign at the end of the “Display Name” field.
- Change the “Profile Privacy” to “Other members of your group.”
- Click the “Update Group Profile” button at the bottom.
You are now ready to subscribe to any other SCCo ARES/RACES discussion groups as desired.
