Course Description and Class Handouts

Overview:	This is the first course in a two part series designed to prepare an individual to assemble and operate and existing packet station. Part A covers the overall county packet network architecture and the various components of a county baseline packet station. Part B is a hands-on class focused on configuring and using the county baseline packet station.
Intended Audience:	Hams with experience in emergency communications who are interested in performing Packet Operator duties.
Prerequisites:	Valid Technician Class or higher Amateur Radio license
Length:	3 hours
Students should bring:	Copy of course handouts Pen/pencil and pad of paper
Learning Objectives:	At the end of this course, students will be able to: Define the role of the packet operator Explain what packet radio is and why we use it Set up and operate a county baseline packet station Perform set up operations of a Kantronics KPC-3+ TNC Understand the use of Outpost and PacFORMS Properly document and log all activities
