Net Control in Disaster Communications - Level 1

Course Description and Class Handouts

 

Overview: This course is designed to prepare individuals to perform net control duties as a fully independent operator for low to medium speed county nets.
Intended Audience: Hams with experience in emergency communications who are interested in performing Net Control duties.
Prerequisites: Valid Technician class or higher Amateur Radio license
Length: 3 hours
Students should bring:
  • Copy of course handouts (see below)
  • Pen/pencil and pad of paper
Learning Objectives:

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand how critical the net control operator is to effective communications for the entire net
  • Explain the purpose and usage of county nets
  • Understand net control operator qualification levels
  • Explain proper net control operator attributes
  • Perform record keeping and logging properly
  • Understand the equipment required for net controls
  • Operate a Level 1 Resource Net
  • Operate a Resource Net for a drill or event
